Walking through the camp

Ohrdruf, Germany, 1945.

Historical footage concerning Nazi crimes and their aftermath. Silent historical footage; use the player controls to pause.

The officers walk past the camera, and for a few seconds it is possible to follow the pace of their visit.

Looking at this scene from Ohrdruf, I wonder about the conversations between one stop and the next. Did they ask each other questions as they walked? Were there things they needed explained again?

A visit can be described afterwards as a single event. In the footage, it consists of people moving, stopping, looking and trying to understand what is in front of them.

I find myself wondering which of those moments they would later remember most clearly. Perhaps it would be something outside this particular frame.

What thoughts come to you as you watch this group walking through the camp?
