About Spaceship Earth
This website is operated by Spaceship Earth, a charitable incorporated organisation registered in England and Wales, charity number 1164631. You can contact us through our contact form.
Our registered address is 530 Oxford Road, Reading, Berkshire, RG30 1EG, United Kingdom. You can write to us at this address or use our contact form for enquiries.
These terms explain the use of our website, educational material and donation facilities. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy and any specific information provided with a project or service. They do not remove rights you have under applicable law.
Our educational work
Spaceship Earth promotes understanding, education and remembrance. Project Empathy restores and colourises historical footage to help people engage with the human experiences it records. Our blog, misinformation resources and developing critical-thinking game support that educational purpose.
Project Empathy’s restoration and colourisation are guided by historical research and the available source material. We present restored footage alongside the original so viewers can compare them directly. The original footage remains the primary historical source. We take care to preserve the historical context and may refine our materials as further evidence becomes available.
Information on this website is for general education. It is not a substitute for appropriate professional advice or for checking the underlying sources when accuracy is critical.
Historical footage and viewer choice
Some material concerns the Holocaust, persecution, war and loss. Even non-graphic footage can be upsetting. Where a clip needs additional context or a viewing choice, follow the information beside that clip. A blurred preview or a click-to-view control does not verify a viewer's age.
Parents, carers and educators should consider the subject matter and the needs of the people they support before showing material. Please contact us if you have a concern about a particular clip or its description.
Using and sharing our material
You are welcome to share links to our public pages and discuss our work with proper attribution. Copyright and other rights may belong to Spaceship Earth, an archive, a contributor or another rights holder. Public availability does not itself give permission to download, republish, edit or commercially exploit material.
Follow any licence or permission shown with the material. Contact us before reusing our restoration work, branding, substantial text or footage where no suitable permission is stated. We do not claim ownership of third-party material or rights that have expired. Nothing here restricts lawful quotation, fair dealing or other statutory exceptions.
Do not remove credits, present restored footage as an unaltered original, imply that we endorse you without permission, or use our material in a misleading way that distorts its historical context.
Donations
Donations made through our current website donation form support Project Empathy, as described in the appeal. This form does not raise funds for our critical-thinking games. Any future fundraising for the games will be described separately.
The Donate button opens a Donorbox form within this website. Before confirming, check the appeal, currency, amount, any optional contribution or fee choice, and whether your donation is one-off or recurring. Donorbox and the payment provider shown at checkout process the transaction under their applicable terms and privacy information.
We use donations for the purpose described in the appeal and in accordance with charity law. A donation is a gift to support Project Empathy; it does not purchase a course, membership, access to the prototype, game reward or other personal benefit.
If you choose a recurring gift, use the donation-management instructions from Donorbox or contact us to ask for future payments to stop. Cancelling a recurring gift does not automatically reverse payments already made.
If you make a mistake, suspect an unauthorised payment or need to request a refund, contact us promptly with the donation date, amount and reference. Do not send full payment card details. We will investigate and consider the request under the circumstances, payment-provider rules and charity law. This does not limit any rights you have through your payment provider or by law.
Only complete a Gift Aid declaration if you meet the eligibility conditions explained in the donation form. Tell us if your details or eligibility change. Any refund or change to a donation may require an adjustment to Gift Aid.
The critical-thinking game prototype
Thinky is a free early beta and proof of concept focused on one bias, survivorship bias. It is available for testing and feedback through a separate browser prototype hosted by Wix. No donation is required to play. Features, controls, assessment criteria and progress may change; it is not a formal qualification or a validated assessment of a person's ability. Willowwind is a separate future game concept.
Save data is currently local to the device or browser used. Do not rely on it as a permanent record: clearing browser storage, using private browsing or changing builds may affect progress. Check the game page for the supported controls and current limitations before playing.
Responsible use and contributions
Use the site lawfully and respectfully. Do not attempt to disrupt it, introduce malicious software, gain unauthorised access or use its forms to send abusive, fraudulent or unlawful material.
If you send us a story, testimonial or other contribution, you should have the right to share it and avoid including other people's private information without a lawful reason. Sending an enquiry does not, by itself, give us permission to publish it as a testimonial; publication arrangements should be agreed separately.
Other services and availability
Links and embedded services may take you to, or load content from, other organisations, including Wix, YouTube and Donorbox. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to their services. A link does not imply an endorsement of everything on an external site.
We take reasonable care with this website, but cannot promise uninterrupted availability or that every technical issue will be prevented. We may maintain, update or withdraw features. Please let us know about broken links, accessibility difficulties or errors.
Responsibility and your rights
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. This does not deprive you of any mandatory protections or right to bring proceedings in the courts of your home jurisdiction where applicable law provides them.
Questions and updates
You can raise questions or complaints through our contact form or the charity contact details above so we can try to resolve them. This does not prevent you from contacting a regulator or exercising your legal rights. We may update these terms as the website develops, showing the revised date above. New terms will not retrospectively change an agreed donation restriction or remove rights that have already arisen.
