THE BIG IDEA
Seeing Earth From Space
At Spaceship Earth, we focus on what we call "the big idea". This is all about how seeing Earth from space changes the way people think. Astronauts look down at our planet and see it is just a tiny, delicate ball hanging in the vastness of space, wrapped in a thin layer of air. From up there, the lines that divide countries are not visible, and the reasons people often argue seem unimportant. This view from space tells us how important it is for all of us to work together to take care of our little planet. If we damage or destroy it, we have nowhere else to go.
Our Purpose
Think of our planet as a house moving through space, and we are all living in it together. Seeing Earth from space there are no visible barriers between countries, race or ideology. We want to break down these artificial barriers to eliminate division. Spaceship Earth aims to build a world where people understand and help each other more.
We believe that by joining forces, we can create a better future. A future where even the little things we do can make a big difference, where being kind and understanding is more important than being divided. Helping Spaceship Earth makes you are part of a team that wants to make a real change. Together, we can make our journey through space a hopeful one, moving forward as one.
Why don’t we work together? We can achieve so much as a team. That way we can build a future that makes us all proud. Spaceship Earth: One Planet, One People
Connecting the Dots: A Unified Mission
Each of our projects, from Project Empathy to our educational courses, support each other in a consistent way. This interconnection reflects our core belief in the unity and shared destiny of humanity. By addressing the spread of misinformation, fostering critical thinking, and learning the lessons of history, we are building a foundation for a future where empathy, understanding, and unity is normal.
Project Empathy: Combatting Holocaust Denial
At the heart of Spaceship Earth is the belief in the power of empathy and education to demolish artificial boundaries. Our Project Empathy tackles the dangerous trend of Holocaust denial fuelled by racism among other things. We do this by restoring and colourising historical footage, making the undeniable truths of history more accessible and impactful. This project not only counters misinformation but also serves as a stark reminder of the importance of unity and understanding. By acting as a warning against current atrocities and thereby preventing future atrocities. The words of Pastor Martin Niemöller hit home. He talked about how the Nazis targeted different groups one by one - first, they went after the Communists, then the Socialists, after that the trade unionists, and the Jews, until finally, he was targeted too. This story is a strong reminder of why it is risky to just stand by and not do anything. Niemöller's point is all about the need to speak up when we see something wrong happening, even if it is not happening to us directly. “First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me” Pastor Martin Niemöller Niemöller's message perfectly describes the problem Project Empathy is tackling. It hits a really important point: not learning from history means we will make the same mistakes again. This idea is at the heart of why we are so keen on shining a light on the past. It is not just about learning facts for the sake of it, but really understanding the deeper lessons, feeling for those who were hurt, and making sure we act differently because of it. By doing this, we are not just remembering people who suffered before; we are working towards a world where such terrible things do not happen again. At Spaceship Earth, we want to make sure the awful events of the Holocaust, and the way people just let them happen, do not ever happen again. Our mission is to get everyone to act, remember the dangers of staying quiet, and come together to fight against hatred. A further reinforcement of our messages is a piece of wisdom from George Santayana - “Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it”.
Fake News, Misinformation and How To Deal With It.
False information is everywhere. Typically, these lies, and misinformation are spread by those who seek to influence or even control your thinking. Our videos shine a light on these techniques being used against you. By pointing out these tricks, we help you stay sharp and make sense of what is real and what is not. These series of short, engaging videos on logical fallacies, aim to equip individuals with the skills to discern truth from falsehood. The mission directly complements Project Empathy by addressing the roots of Holocaust denial and other forms of hate-driven falsehoods, fostering a more informed and empathetic community.
Educational Courses on Cognitive Biases
What on earth is a cognitive bias? It is a shortcut your brain takes when it is making decisions or judging situations. Sometimes these shortcuts can lead us to make mistakes in thinking or judgement. These courses are not taught in schools and they should be. Spaceship Earth is addressing this serious deficiency. The courses are designed to help you think for yourself and come to understandings which are yours. You will no longer have to accept the pre-digested information fed to you without question. You will start to question everything.
