Beside the barracks

The men walking beside this long wooden building make me wonder about the first ordinary decisions after liberation.
Where do you go? Who do you look for? If you can walk across the camp, what are you hoping to find at the other end?
There is no way to tell from this short scene what brought these particular men past the doorway. But I find myself thinking about how much we usually take for granted when we decide to go somewhere. We expect to be allowed to go. We expect to return.
Looking at this footage from Ohrdruf, I wonder how those expectations began to return, and how long that might have taken.
What questions come to you as you watch the men moving through this space?
