OUR PHILOSOPHICAL GOALS
The Overview Effect
Spaceship Earth is linked to a term called the overview effect, which is a cognitive shift in awareness reported by astronauts and cosmonauts during spaceflight, often while viewing the Earth from orbit or from the lunar surface. It refers to the experience of seeing first-hand the reality of the Earth in space, which is immediately understood to be a tiny, fragile ball of life, "hanging in the void", shielded and nourished by a paper-thin atmosphere. From space, national boundaries vanish, the conflicts that divide people become less important, and the need to create a planetary society with the united will to protect this "pale blue dot" becomes both obvious and imperative.
"Pale Blue Dot" was coined by Carl Sagan.
ABOUT US
We champion a United Earth where poverty, war and infectious diseases are a thing of the past.
Spaceship Earth is a world view term expressing concern over the use of limited resources available on Earth and encouraging everyone on it to act as a harmonious crew working toward the greater good.
We share the passionate belief that humanity can overcome our weaknesses and create a better future for our planet and everyone on it, today; not in some distant future. Our mission is to unite humanity for the greater good. Together we can achieve great things.
We do this by running educational events, expanding scientific research, uniting all of humanity through common goals, and working with others to eradicate infectious diseases which contribute to poverty.
We are working in partnership with Dr David Anderson from BOINC and James Sugrue from DonateCode to expand the reach of projects like Dr David Baker's Rosetta@home currently researching treatments for Covid-19
Spaceship Earth is a Registered Charity, Number: 1164631
